On October 13, 1909 was shot in Barcelona Francisco Ferrer Guardia, teacher, free-thinker and founder of a pedagogical renewal movement called Modern School. The murder, condemned by a military court in a contemptible process, became a new ""Dreyfus Affair"", which turned to side-clerical Catholic fanaticism and military repression.
